Since 2014 (the year of which I made this portrait) I have been back four more times.
I have seen it in other seasons, it has always been different, this has not interfered with what I have reported in this collection of images. Even if I’ve been working on this book for a few years, I don’t have the dimension of affection I feel for these places, for the city of New York. The images of the city and the jewels emerged quickly, as soon as I returned from the trip, while putting them together took me five years.
The photographs shown here are chosen among the 950 I had available. They are not only mine but also my sister Daniela Banci and friend Patrizia Panfili. They were with me; we went around, have seen, lived. Their presence allowed me to be a guide for the city with tranquility and joy. The images that I collect here are feelings for me and the jewels are the evolution of those feelings. I made them by working in the laboratory for fifteen days.
